Scorsese to Direct Documentary Featuring One of Pope Francis’s Last Interviews

According to cinemadrame news agency, the feature-length documentary “Aldeas – A New Story,” focusing on one of Pope Francis’s “last” interviews, is being produced in collaboration with Martin Scorsese and the global movement Scholas Occurrentes, which was founded by Pope Francis.
This documentary will chronicle the activities of Scholas Occurrentes in education, filmmaking, and community building, with the goal of “bringing together the beauty of human diversity, and fostering unity in today’s divided world.” Behind-the-scenes footage of these activities will be combined with unseen interviews between Pope Francis and Scorsese to form a feature-length documentary. Pope Francis had said about the project before his passing: “Aldeas is a deeply poetic and constructive project because it goes to the roots of human life, human socialization, and human struggles… the essence of life’s path.”
Scorsese states: “Now, more than ever, we need to engage in cross-cultural dialogue, to listen to each other. One of the best ways to achieve this is by sharing our stories, which reflect our personal lives and experiences. It helps us to understand and appreciate how each of us sees the world. It was important for Pope Francis that people around the world exchange their ways of thinking respectfully while maintaining their cultural identity, and cinema is the best medium for this.” Indonesia, Gambia, and Italy were the first countries to participate in this project, producing short narrative films.
